Professional Examination Training Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing usistd.org Ian is a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and is a proud member of the United States branch of the ISTD. The organization is the largest and most prestigious teaching society in the world, formed in 1904 covering many different styles of dance. The society has over 10,000 members and is known for its high standards. Moreover, the ISTD holds very rigorous examinations for professional teachers. It publishes the famous 'Revised Technique' by the late Alex Moore MBE, the bible of Ballroom Technique. Ian is available for professional theory coaching for candidates who wish to be qualified in either International Standard or Latin American with the United States Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. He firmly believes that all professional teachers should be qualified and fully supports the initiative of all professionals being certified with the National Dance Council of America Dance Vision International Dance Association prodvida.com In 2002 a new teaching society was formed in the USA called Pro DVIDA®) (Dance Vision International Dance Association) and is the brain child of Wayne and Donna Eng. The aim is to provide professionals with top-notch service and valuable tools and to identify those teachers who exemplify the highest levels of skill and ethical standards, through training, experience and certification. Ian is therefore delighted to be associated with Pro DVIDA®) and has already trained candidates for their examinations. Moreover, in November 2008, Ian was appointed Regional Examiner and may administer the following Professional exams:-
Junior Associate, Associate & Master American Style Smooth Junior Associate, Associate & Master International Latin American Junior Associate, Associate, Master & Grand Master International Standard In August 2010, Ian was thrilled to establish the Mid Atlantic Training Center . Based in northern Virginia, it is exclusively for professionals who want to train for their DVIDA certification. Click here to find out more about the new Mid Atlantic Training Center Workshops Known for his skill at weaving dance technique and humor, Ian is in demand for giving workshops in both Standard and Latin. He has a developed a distinct sense of dry British wit that has found favor with students and professionals alike. In addition, Ian has also built up a very good reputation for his Standard technique/drill classes taught in the DC area. Guest Coaching Although Ian is based in Alexandria, Virginia he travels much farther afield within the US from New England to Florida as a guest coach. Ian teaches private lessons to singles and couples from beginner to advanced competitive level in International Standard and Latin American as well as American Style Smooth. He works with amateurs, teachers, pro-am and professional partnerships. Ian welcomes inquiries from studio owners or managers.. Judging Ian K. Gillett is a Championship Adjudicator in International and American styles licensed by the National Dance Council of America. Ian states, "For me judging is a very serious and difficult task. I do not judge on form but rather on the dancing that is being performed in front of my eyes. I rely on my strong background and knowledge built up over many years. I judge what I see". |
